Initially the work on ECOL was funded by ESTA, the European Association for Abnormal Road Transport and Mobile Cranes.
During the development phase of the project, ECOL applied for and received a grant under the ERAMUS+ program for Adult education.

As of January 1st 2019 ECOL was funded by contributions from the participating organisations and the fees for experience registration paid by operators.
Certification
The ECOL foundation itself is certified under NEN-EN-ISO9001:2015. The certification was audited by Aboma in August 2019.
